Build your own electro mechanical motion capture system

Aimed at the mechanical & engineering education sector the kit will provide everything required for students to build Animazoo’s award winning mechanical Gypsy-6 torso motion capture system, providing an insight into the mechanics behind inertial motion capture technology.

The Gyspsy-6 provides actual kinetic and rotational digital data via an adjustable exoskeleton frame. The combination of the potentiometers and gyroscopes placed on the frame provides excellent freedom of movement and the capture of highly accurate nuance filled raw data all of which can be viewed in real-time.

Above all, the system is simple to use making the package ideal for teaching the concepts behind motion capture; from suit calibration to data capture.

In addition, the kit will come with a full SDK service which will allow students and engineers to program their Gyspy-6 torso systems for use in their own software and create new applications to integrate with the suit.

The kit will be available in standard and deluxe models with prices starting from $10,000USD.

For more information on the Gypsy-6 system and the build your own motion capture suit kit contact Paul Collimore on +44(0)1273 417 440 or email paul@animazoo.com.

Animazoo supplies Chechnya’s first motion capture system

Animazoo is proud to announce the installation of a fully equipped animation studio using an IGS-190 motion capture system at the PUT Publishing House; a new Ministry of Culture initiative in the town of Gudermes situated near Chechnya's capital Grozny.

The IGS-190 full body motion capture suit and the animation studio installation generated a host of local and national media excitement and is expected to revolutionize the way animation is made in the country. Magomed Elgarayev, acting head of the PUT Publishing House claims that the studio, with its brand-new equipment now has 'no rivals' in Russia. Elgarayev investigated a number of motion capture systems before choosing the IGS-190; with its excellent data capture and reliability he considered it to be 'the best in the world' for his motion capture based projects. Having Russian, French, Spanish and Italian speaking support staff at Animazoo was also a point not lost by people who might need plenty of after sales support.

PUT Publishing will utilise the IGS-190's patented inertial motion capture technology immediately to generate new and original creative 3D work beginning with a series of animated films focusing on the traditions, culture and customs of the Chechen people. "There is no shortage of scripts" says Elgarayev, who does not seem surprised by the Chechen creative community's enthusiasm for the studio's future work.

Ali Kord, Technical Director of Animazoo had this to say. 'I am so excited for them. We have set them up from A to Z of the pipeline they need to produce all types of animation. They just love the fact that they can produce custom-made original animation instead of buying second hand ones that have clearly been dubbed'.

Larissa Vyborgova, Director of Russian established animation company Studio Mult wishes Elgarayev and his creative teams the best of success with the new equipment and says motion capture is 'only the tip' of what is now possible for PUT Publishing.

Chatterbox on CineSource

Motion Picture magazine CineSource interview Roger Nelson about the AnimaLive Chatterbox;

Even as its forms diversify and multiply in our lives, we are becoming more intimate, involved, and submerged in media. In a conversation about the ubiquity of media in our lives, a colleague remarked, "If the animated characters that reflect our imaginative and interpretive selves were any more active, they would be talking back to us."

Don't look now, but they already are.
